1959
Storefront Hardware Repair
Started by A.T. Knowles in 1959, Knowles Door Check has been a family-owned company for three generations. A.T. Knowles started a storefront hardware repair business, specializing in rebuilding floor closers and selling new hardware as needed.
1970s
Storefront Sales & Service
In the 1970’s A.T. Knowles sold the business to his son-in-law, James Greathouse. Under James’s stewardship the business transitioned to a storefront sales and service company servicing the greater north Texas area.

1999
Contract Hardware Distribution for Storefront & Glazing Industry
Then in 1999 James sold the company to his son and daughter-in-law, Duff and Brenda Greathouse. The two tailored their business to the needs of their customers and turned Knowles Door Check into a contract hardware distribution company for the storefront and glazing industry. With Duff’s experience in aluminum doors and Brenda’s knowledge of door hardware the company has expanded, servicing subcontractors around the country.
Today
Interpreting Specs & Compatibility, Building Relationships
Knowles’ focus today is on interpreting specifications for glazing subcontractors and ensuring hardware specified is compatible with aluminum doors and frames selected for the project. Building relationships with subcontractors has remained a focus of our company, and with our expansive knowledge of door hardware we can handle all of your hardware needs.
